Collinearity, convergence and cancelling infrared divergences

The Lee-Nauenberg theorem is a fundamental quantum mechanical result which provides the standard theoretical response to the problem of collinear and infrared divergences. Its argument, that the divergences due to massless charged particles can be removed by summing over degenerate states, has been successfully applied to systems with final state degeneracies such as LEP processes. If there are...

The Convergence of Contrastive Divergences

This paper analyses the Contrastive Divergence algorithm for learning statistical parameters. We relate the algorithm to the stochastic approximation literature. This enables us to specify conditions under which the algorithm is guaranteed to converge to the optimal solution (with probability 1). This includes necessary and sufficient conditions for the solution to be unbiased.

Infrared Divergences in dS/CFT

dS/CFT gives a perturbatively gauge invariant definition of particle masses in de Sitter (dS) space. We show, in a toy model in which the graviton is replaced with a minimally coupled massless scalar field, that loop corrections to these masses are infrared (IR) divergent. We argue that this implies anomalous dependence of masses on the cosmological constant, in a true theory of quantum gravity...

The Equivalence Theorem and infrared divergences

We look at the Equivalence Theorem as at a statement about the absence of polynomial infrared divergences when mW → 0. We prove their absence in a truncated toy model and conjecture that, if they exist at all, they are due to couplings between light particles. ∗e–mail: [email protected]

Eliminating Infrared Divergences in the Pressure

The pressure of a system in thermal equilibrium is expressed as a mass integral over a sum of thermal propagators. This allows a Dyson resummation and is used to demonstrate that potential infrared divergences are rendered harmless. The perturbative treatment of finite-temperature quantum field theories involving massless bosonic fields always faces infrared divergences starting at a certain lo...
